- Steve Rogers: the original and current Captain America, also known as the Nomad, the Captain, and Commander Steve Rogers; honorary founding member of the Avengers, current leader of the Avengers; former leader of the Invaders and the Secret Avengers

- James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes: Steve’s WWII partner, also known as the Winter Soldier, a covert Soviet assassin; Captain America VI, former Avenger. Seemingly killed in the events of Fear Itself and thought to be dead by a majority of the Marvel universe, Bucky has retaken the Winter Soldier identity.

- Dr. Abraham Erskine: also known as Dr. Josef Reinstein (codename), the creator of the Super-Soldier Serum

- General Chester Phillips: Hand-picked Steve Rogers to be a part of Operation: Rebirth

- Margaret “Peggy” Carter: also known as Agent 13, fought with the French Resistance in WWII, Cap’s wartime lover, aunt of Sharon Carter (Steve’s current girlfriend)

- William Nasland: Captain America II, originally the Spirit of ‘76

- Jeffrey Mace: Captain America III, originally the Patriot

- Fred Davis, Jr.: Bucky II, partner of William Nasland and Jeff Mace

- William Burnside: Captain America IV/1950’s Cap, also known as the Grand Director; legally changed his name to “Steven Rogers”

- Jack Monroe: Bucky III, partner of William Burnside; took Steve’s old identity of Nomad

- John Walker: Captain America V, originally the Super-Patriot; took Steve’s “Captain” costume and adopted the name US Agent; currently the warden of the Raft

- Lemar Hoskins: Bucky V, partner of John Walker; later changed his name to Battlestar after learning that the term “Bucky” is demeaning to African-Americans

- Rick Jones: Bucky IV, brief partner of Captain America, honorary Avenger

- Sharon Carter: also known as Agent 13; former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., current love interest of Steve Rogers; current Secret Avenger; niece of Peggy Carter

- Natasha Romanova: Black Widow, former Russian spy, former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., former leader of the Avengers, the Champions, and the Thunderbolts; current Secret Avenger, Bucky’s girlfriend

- Rebecca “Rikki” Barnes: Bucky VI, granddaughter of Bucky in an alternate universe; transported from her universe to the main Marvel universe; currently the third Nomad, current Young Ally

- Shannon Carter: the American Dream, niece of Sharon and Peggy Carter in an alternate universe

- Sam Wilson: the Falcon, parter and best friend of Captain America (both Steve and Bucky), briefly assumed the role of Captain America, social worker

- Isaiah Bradley: often referred to as “the black Captain America”; the result of an ethically immoral and illegal attempt to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum; father of Josiah X, grandfather of Eli Bradley

- Josiah al hajj Saddiq: also known as Josiah X and Justice; son of Isaiah Bradley (via a surrogate mother); Vietnam vet, former Black Panther activist; converted to Islam while in self-imposed exile in Africa; former member of Rhodey’s “Crew”

- Elijah “Eli” Bradley: also known as the Patriot of the Young Avengers; grandson of Isaiah Bradley, nephew of Josiah al hajj Saddiq; originally had no powers and used Mutant Growth Hormone to obtain them; later, a blood transfusion from his grandfather endowed him with powers similar to Isaiah’s; after the events of Avengers: Children’s Crusade, Eli has given up the Patriot identity

- Kiyoshi Morales: Commander A of the United Americas in the 25th century. He is Japanese, Hispanic, Nez Percé, and African-American. His history is unknown as of right now.
