Okay, so I’ve been trying to catch up on Canon, but I have questions. SO MANY QUESTIONS. But here’s just a few things:
- So during the Heroic Age, Steve became Captain Rogers and Bucky became Captain America
- But they’re releasing a Winter Soldier series, which I’m assuming is Bucky, so who’s Cap again?
- Or is this not even related to the Heroic Age?
- There’s also a Cap and Hawkeye thing coming out.
- WHO IS CAPTAIN AMERICA IN THAT?
HELP ME. PLEASE. I’M SO CONFUSED AND JUST TRYING TO LEARN THINGS.
In the events of the No Escape storyline (Captain America #606-610), Baron Zemo exposed Bucky’s past as the Winter Soldier, which lead to the Trial of Captain America and Prisoner of War arcs (Cap #611-615, #616-619). Bucky ended up being extradited back to Russia where he was held in a gulag. It’s during this time that Steve starts to consider becoming Captain America again. Fast forward a little bit to the Fear Itself event, Bucky has escaped from the gulag to fulfill his role as Captain America for the nation, but is beaten and killed by Sin. Steve then makes the decision to once again become Captain America. Later, in Fear Itself #7.1, we find out that Bucky was barely alive, and with the last dose of Nick Fury’s Infinity Formula, was revived. This was done in secret, so everyone in the Marvel Universe besides Steve, Natasha, and Nick Fury belives that Bucky is still dead. Using this secrecy, Bucky will once again become the Winter Solider and work to redeem himself for the crimes he committed as a brainwashed Soviet assassin.
As for Cap and Hawkeye, that’ll be exploring Steve’s history with Clint, but Cullen Bunn might throw in a curve ball and add a story that goes in depth on Clint’s friendship with Bucky.

Generally, I may be wrong here, but if Bucky isn’t being Cap, Steve is. In ‘Fear Itself’, Bucky is Captain America, but then he SPOILERS “dies”, so Steve takes up the cowl again. END SPOILERS.
