I want to get into Captain America. Where should I start?

Where’s a good place to jump into Captain America?

  • Captain America #1 (vol. 6) was released on 7/13/11, and that is the perfect place for anyone to get into Cap. It’s written by Ed Brubaker and is currently being drawn by Alan Davis (issues 1-5 were drawn by Steve McNiven), and it is an absolutely fantastic series.
  • Captain America and Bucky #620 is another new series that debuted on 7/27. Its numbering is a bit off because it’s continuing the numbering from the old Captain America ongoing title (vol. 5). Written by Ed Brubaker along with Marc Andreyko, this title is slated to explore Steve and Bucky’s partnership during World War II, along with Bucky’s mysterious past as the Winter Soldier. Don’t worry if these names seem strange right now. The more you read, the more you’ll learn.
  • If you want to start farther back, the Reborn series (Captain America: Reborn #1-6, Who Will Wield the Shield?) is another great jumping on point. From there, you can go right into Captain America #602, and read on through to Captain America #619 and on to the titles that are mentioned above.
  • And if you want to go even farther back, I suggest you start where I started when I first got into Captain America, which would be the beginning of Captain America, vol. 5. Here’s a list of tpb’s that collect vol. 5 in its entirety:
